Inspiration

"In bathrooms, boardrooms, buses, bagel shops, and everywhere else, we all need to imagine a little girl following us around, repeating everything we say and everything we do. Think about all the things you want for your daughters, granddaughters, and girls everywhere - and teach them by living it yourself." - Nell Merlino

This man is so awesome. My absolute favorite person to work with. He’s got the best sense of humor, a terrific work ethic, and sarcasm when I need it most.
I was starving Sunday morning when we were setting things up. (Did I mention that I missed the delicious short ribs, shrimp, polenta, and red velvet cake that everyone else got to eat Saturday night?) I slipped out of the convention center and ran to the coffee shop to grab a breakfast sandwich. It was a nice big croissant with egg, cheese and bacon. I had to be back on the floor in case anyone needed me, so I was walking around with the sandwich in one hand and my papers in the other…just full on chowing down as I walked.
I ran into Steve, who had this big smile on his face. He told me that the more he sees me, the more he loves and respects me because he was truly impressed with my ability to man handle that sandwich. Works for me.

He really will be okay, you know. “Cast all your cares on the LORD, and He will sustain you. He will never let the righteous be shaken”. Ps 55:22

I love this verse.  Thank you, Shana.

I swiped this picture from my co-worker.  These are just a few of my volunteers.  This is the only picture of me in my dress, too. I kept thinking it was too short and too showy, but I’m not kidding when I say that EVERYONE stopped to tell me I looked good. Even had a few double takes because they didn’t realize it was me.  So I guess that’s good…or maybe I should think about stepping up how I dress for work…
By the way, the woman beside me…HILARIOUS! She and her friend (the woman beside her) are my absolute favorite volunteers.  It’s a shame that I only get to work with them once a year. Once registration gets rolling, they always buy us a chocolate martini or two. They are so fun.  I only hope I turn out as awesome as them when I get older.

Aaron and Benny with Colston. (They are Donovan’s older brothers)
Colston turns 3 today! He is the sweetest boy. He can get into some trouble, but he’s too darn cute to be mad at for very long. I hope to get out to Oklahoma sometime this year.

just a little update

I got to talk to my sister-in-law this morning.  Last night around 8:30, Donovan had 2 seizures somewhat back to back. The first one lasted about 2 and a half minutes and the second was only 40 seconds. Since then his fever has stayed down.  All of his tests have come back negative, so that’s all good news.

She mentioned febrile seizures (thank you, again, Gary) as the cause, which is nice to have a label, but doesn’t make it any less scary. She isn’t sure if they will send him home today or keep him another night for monitoring. She was telling me about holding him when it happened and just watching the numbers on the oxygen machine because that’s the only way she knows he’s okay/getting oxygen to his brain.  But she seemed in good spirits.

All clear!

Ok, so the spinal tap came back all clear.  They haven’t quite decided what may have caused the seizure.  They do know that his temperature had spiked pretty rapidly from 100 to 104, so that’s a possibility but they are going to keep him overnight and continue to give him meds every 2 hours.

When I talked to my sister-in-law around 6:00 she had said he was awake and alert for once and my brother had him laughing for the first time today, so I feel much better.  I think they do too.  Thank you so much, again.  Hopefully they all get some rest.

My brother with Baby D. We still haven’t heard anything. Waiting for test results is the worst. My nephews and nieces are my world, but I’m probably only feeling half as anxious as my brother and sister-in-law.
I have faith that he will be okay. I mean, talk about being in the right place at the right time.
